Why Don’t All Great Harvest Bakeries Make the Same Breads and Products?

Why Don’t All Great Harvest Bakeries Make the Same Breads and Products?

Driving across the country, or even just across town, you will see significant differences in every Great Harvest Bread Company’s menu from the varieties of muffins they make on Wednesdays to the special breads they’ll be offering for Valentine’s Day.

We are a “Freedom Franchise” with every store being individually owned and operated locally.  Rather than requiring owners to all follow a nationally dictated menu like many franchises out there, Great Harvest business owners are able to decide what they want to offer customers in their individual neighborhoods.

If you’re located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area, Finnish Pulla is an extremely popular bread with the unique flavor of cardamom.  But the demand for it is minimal in many parts of the country.

Likewise, King Cakes are all the rage right now in the Lafayette and Mandeville, Louisiana locations and it takes a lot of work to keep up with the orders for this colorful tradition that comes complete with Mardi Gras beads and a plastic baby.  However, some Great Harvests who’ve been in business for more than 20 years have never even had a request for one.

Great Harvest Bread Company owners are able to have the benefits that come from being part of a franchise family while, at the same time, having the freedom to customize their bakery to fit their own vision and meeting the needs of their individual markets.
