Healthy Children, Healthy Bakeries and Healthy Local Retail Relationships

Healthy Children, Healthy Bakeries and Healthy Local Retail Relationships

There are so many outstanding organizations deserving generous support from the local business community. One such organization is Seattle Children’s Hospital

The medical center has a hospital, research institute and foundation that provide world-class care to more than 300,000 children annually.

Over the past eight years, Seattle-area Great Harvest bakeries have handcrafted and sold adorable whole grain Bready Bears, with 100 percent of proceeds going to the hospital’s Uncompensated Care and Research Fund.

Since 2005, Seattle-area bakeries have raised more than $85,000 for Children’s Hospital.

This year the Ballard, Lake Forest Park and Bellevue bakeries are hosting a fundraiser for Seattle Children's Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 29 with 100 percent of ALL bread sales going to the fund.

The whole wheat bread business definitely attracts community-minded owners who are excited to have the freedom to choose and participate in great causes. Across the nation, it’s safe to say – collectively – Great Harvest small business owners support upwards of 500 distinct non-profit organizations, as well as schools and local food banks.

Dirk Sisson, owner of the Anchorage Great Harvest, came up with the phrase “baking the difference.” The franchise office and owners embrace it. We feel it is emblematic of the values we share with each other and our customers -- friendship, wholesome food, local ownership and, of course, the joy of giving back.

Wishing my friends in Seattle great success!
