Steve & Alicia Sundborg and Eric & Tricia Cray are working hard to open the northern most Great Harvest Bread Company in the United States. Soon, Fairbanks, Alaska will be home to a new and exciting family-owned, handmade from-scratch whole wheat bakery!
The Cray’s and Sundborgs have deep roots in Fairbanks and are committed to sharing the benefits of whole grain bread with their community. Steve is a third generation Alaskan. Siblings, Alicia and Eric, were born and raised in Fairbanks and Tricia has lived there most of her life. Ranging from firefighting to photography, the group has backgrounds that are diverse and complimentary.
After visiting the Anchorage bread store, the Cray’s and Sundborg’s developed an interest in owning their own Great Harvest. Says Tricia, “After hearing heard many rumors that the hot, fresh Great Harvest bread was to die for and that they gave a free slice of warm bread with butter to everybody that came in, Great Harvest became a must stop place while we visited Anchorage.” From those trips a new goal was born and the family embarked upon their next endeavor.
United by their shared love of hot bread and robust coffee, the Cray’s and Sundborgs are excited to begin milling their own wheat, baking fresh bread daily and serving the best cup of coffee possible to warm their neighbors on cold Fairbank’s days. Track their progress on their Facebook page!
