Bakery Owners Celebrate Eight Great Years

Bakery Owners Celebrate Eight Great Years

I am honored to present to you a blog post by Sara Goodwin Brown, Great Harvest Burlington, VT bakery owner and guest blogger

Ethan and I spent our first wedding anniversary, four days before our not-so-grand opening, painting the inside of the bakery.  We had moved to Burlington, Vermont from Missoula, Montana within weeks of getting married, with the plan to open our own whole wheat bread business. The history of this bakery has mirrored the years of our marriage, the beginnings of our family, and our life in Burlington.

In the early years, the bakery demanded so much from us. There were times that it almost wrung us dry. Yet it has also given us many gifts. This bakery has served as a source of identity for us in this town. Many of our closest friends were first our customers. We found our house through a sign that we posted on the bulletin board in the lobby. The bakery has given me and Ethan a way to contribute to and participate in our wonderful town.

The bakery has now settled into its place, supporting our family, no longer owning us.  We would have never made it here without the commitment, talents, and generosity of our crew past and present. And we would not still be around if it wasn't for all of our customers; making our bread a part of their life, telling their friends about us, and returning again and again to buy more bread. We are grateful and proud to serve the Burlington community!
