Great Harvest Burlington, VT Guest Post: The Green Explosion

A whole lot of rain, a little sun,  a few hot days, and Vermont has become one lush place.  I have been reminded these last few weeks of the beauty of sunlight filtering through a canopy of

leavesleaves.  Reminded of the ability of the green to both soothe and stimulate.  Stepping outside barefoot, and sweaterless makes me feel more fully a part of the world.  Little Eve, my January baby, is in wonder of the new outdoors. She can spend hours outside on her blanket in the shade of our apple tree, adrift on the sensory sea of wind-swayed branches, birdsong, lilac scent, and clutched blades of grass in dimpled fingers. Her wonder rubs off on me.

This is the time of year when the gardens and the grass grow perceptibly with every day.  Even the weeds look beautiful in June.  I am still trying to figure out when all the snow went.  Wasn't it just yesterday that I was complaining about shoveling snow?

One 90 degree day this week, I finally got around to taking down the four baskets in our home's front hall that hold our mittens and hats all winter long.  I chuckled a bit at the incongruousness of greenhouse heat and humidity and our family's woolens.  That's how Vermont is, one day you wake up and it is Summer. And it is short!

Why is it that every year passes more quickly than the one before?
