Great Harvest is an enthusiastic supporter of the Breaking Through Concrete's (BTC) urban garden project, which seeks to promote urban farming and support local farm-to-table eating. Our humble contribution to the BTC project is "whole grain fuel" in the form of fresh, warm bread (sweet and savory) and real sandwiches for their two-month-long road trip.
The BTC project will profile 15 small farms breaking through concrete, transforming urban communities and landscapes, and reconnecting people to food. York Times photographer Michael Hanson and writer and producer David Hanson will photograph and conduct interviews for a book to be published in 2011 by the University of California Press. Multimedia stories are shared on the BTC blog as the journey progresses.
The BTC bus tour began its journey on May 19 from Seattle to head cross-country to Grayslake, Ill. with a planned arrival on July 4. This road trip project will document the urban farm movement.
